NEW MING VILLAGE

Crafts to discover

In this village, which is actually a factory, is made to the old, porcelain and pottery of the Ming and Qing dynasties. JURONG REPTILE PARK

CHINESE AND JAPANESE GARDENS (YU HWA YUAN)

LABRADOR NATURE RESERVE

Natural site to discover

This is another ideal place for a stroll in lush surroundings, a walk along the sea on the background of the Second World War. In 2001, while the park was to be transformed into amusement park, bunkers were discovered. Called the Labradors secret tunnels, they were used by the British army. In front of the hotel you will find a small restaurant, the olive, very pleasant for lunch. Ask the boss to open the gates of the bunker.

SOUTHERN RIDGES

Natural site to discover

The Southern Ridges is a 9 km trail that connects the west coast parks to Harbour Front. Mount Faber, Telok Blangah Hill Park and Kent Ridge Park are connected. Mount Faber and Telok Blangah Hill Park are connected by the amazing Henderson Wave, a magnificent wooden bridge (the highest in Singapore, perched at 36 m high) in the shape of a wave, on which one can enjoy a superb view of southern Singapore (the bridge is lit at night). Not to be missed, the 300 meters Canopy Walk which links Kent Ridge Park to Bukit Chandu.

RESERVOIR MACRITCHIE

Natural site to discover

At the heart of the Central Catchment nature reserve, which extends over 2,000 ha, lies MacRitchie Reservoir. Far from the polished jungle of the botanical gardens, here you're really in the rainforest, and some of the trails can be strenuous. A 12 km trail (about 5 hours' walk) circles the reservoir. It can be very hot, so take water, good shoes and mosquito repellent. If walking isn't your thing, you can enjoy the reservoir by renting a kayak from the Paddle Lodge.

NIGHT SAFARI

Zoo

This nocturnal safari takes place in a 40-hectare park opposite the zoo. It's one of Singapore's star attractions, with night-time strolls and encounters with many protected and endangered animals. You can see the pangolin, theclouded leopard, the Malay tapir, theflying fox, a species of bat with an imposing wingspan, and the Malay tiger. The visit takes place in a small train.

HOUSE OF TAN YEOK NEE (HOUSE)

Museums

Tan Yeok Nee, originally from Teochew, made his fortune in the pepper and gambier trade. In 1885, he built himself a superb house. It is the only one of its kind in Singapore. It features large granite columns and is home to many beautiful sculptures imported from China. After Tan Yeok Nee's death, the house had a motley crew of owners: a stationmaster, a bishop, the boarders of a girls' school and even the Japanese army during the occupation, then the Salvation Army.
