SRI THENDAYUTHAPANI
The Chettiars, originally from Chettinad (Tamil Nadu), are a community of influential merchants and financiers. In 1859, their diaspora in Singapore erected a temple dedicated to Sri Thendayuthapani, better known as Lord Murugan. From the outside, the brightly-colored building stands out brilliantly in the urban landscape. The entrance is marked by an elegantly carved gopuram. The main sanctuary houses Murugan, flanked by Ganesha and the faithful Idumban. The temple is the emblematic arrival point for the spectacular Thaipusam processions.
