Read moreIn the Compañia district, exit through the rue Cienfuegos, you can visit the Lambert Foundry. Charles Lambert introduced in Chile the French technique of indirect fusion that allowed for the treatment of metals of lower copper content. Its La Compañia smelter now gives its name to the neighborhood. Lambert made fortune by treating scories of old mines and his land, and built a huge house in Adobe. By continuing the path, one fell nose with a Gothic stone cross that Lambert had erected in memory of his unique son, an officer of the English navy disappeared at sea. The cross brings a epitaph to the English poet Longfellow.

The town's mayor, Roberto Jacob, welcomed the initiative and stressed the importance of collaboration between tourism players. The Universities of La Serena and Central offered their support by providing studies and statistical data to aid planning and research in the field of tourism. Board members also expressed their desire to promote the image of Gabriela Mistral, the famous Chilean poetess, and to preserve the city's historical heritage. Projects to improve the Avenue de la Mer, La Serena's main tourist attraction, were also discussed. Finally, the city also offers a variety of cultural events, such as concerts and shows, to entertain visitors.

CHURCH OF LA MERCED
Read moreAngle of Estado and Cuevas. It was founded by the order of Notre-Dame de la Merced under the San Cruz Nonato convent of San Cruz de Triana. The building, which then housed a hospice, was restored three times between 1877 and 1889. You will notice the decoration of the nave in a Renaissance style by the architect Don Ignacio Cremonesi. In 1814, the church was defended by General O'Higgins against the royalist assailants. Classified as a national monument in 1954, it is now in good condition and can be visited every day.

PALACIO ASTORECA
