Little known park, located north of the port of Huasco. It goes mainly in September/October, when the desert blooms (not every year). The show is of all beauty. 

Established in 1935, Rapa Nui National Park is an area that covers over 40% of Easter Island. It was administered by Conaf until 2016, then co-managed with the local community (Ma'u Henua), before President Michelle Bachelet transferred the administration of the park completely to Ma'u Henua in 2017. This is where you buy your ticket to the national park. You can also get your passport stamped, a must for frequent travelers!

A recent observatory, located in the south of the region of Coquimbo, at 1 140 m above sea level and less than 4 km from the village of Combarbalá, famous for its precious stone unique in the world. The centre has four quality telescopes (based on the position of the stars of the South Cross), a multimedia hall and an amphitheatre for various artistic and scienfitiques activities. Less known to foreigners, this site can deserve a detour. 

The Laguna Verde, located over 4 325 m above sea level, owes its name to its emerald green colour. It is probably one of the most beautiful places in Chile, a sumptuous site, difficult to descriptible, since the lagoon is surrounded by a unique amount in the Andes of high snow-capped volcanoes (several exceeding 6 000 m, such as the Barrancas Blancas at 6 119 m and the Muerto at 6 470 m, not forgetting the Ojos del Salado). Route 31 then leads to the Paso San Francisco, which leads to Argentina, and to the towns of Fiambalá and Tinogasta.

At 3 km from Vinapu, here is a site whose moai lie on the ground, half buried and the head cracked for some of them. The grounding and destruction of moai ahu still check 2 km further, on the site of Vaihu where eight statues are aligned by land, lie in their dishonour; their giant caps, pukao, strew grass as a symbol of their decline. Not far away is the Maunga Orito, Obsidian quarry.

This trek is worth any walk in the lakes area, you will hardly meet anyone and the landscapes crossed are breathtaking. We cross plateaus covered with strange formations, the result of volcanic activity in the past centuries. These lunar landscapes attract ufology enthusiasts: a large number of UFO sightings have been recorded in recent decades. Over a length of 10 km, it is possible to go up and down to the basaltic plateau in less than 8 hours, but it is better to camp.

A great option for hiking, it's about 4km long but you can spend all day here (it's uphill!); there are many viewpoints with fantastic views of the surrounding mountains, and the lagoon, nestled at the bottom of a volcanic crater at 2,000m, is beautiful - you can even camp nearby. There is another way to get there, but only for the more athletic: take the path that leads to the El Enladrillado area. The area is known to be shaped like an alien landing strip.
