JOHNNY’S KITCHEN

Music and entertainment bar
4.6/5
5 reviews

Ten small tables placed tightly one against another, a bottom of terrace overlooking the Saône, a TV set connected on a sport event or a clip channel. Johnny is not very impressive, but it is one of the friendliest places in the district of Saint-Georges. You can sit here for hours in front of an empty glass, without any worry. You can come to crunch Jacket potatoes cosmopolitan at any time and without fuss, with Chile, Savoy, Bolognese or vegetarian. The beer flows abundantly in this Irish cave where green atmosphere prevails. With a bit of luck, you'll see a music group repeating in the free rehearsal room located in the basement, at the sound mixer, amplifier and battery. An advisable "kitchen".

LE COMPTOIR

Wine bar
5/5
1 review

Faced with the disappearance of the village spirit, Le Comptoir presents the "village bar". Perpetuating the tradition of good living together, Le Comptoir shares moments of conviviality around a typically French and regional product: wine. Encounters, friendship, it's human warmth in high doses that we consume at the Comptoir while savouring delicious platters composed of charcuterie and cheese, delicious terrines. A festive, greedy and tasty counter, a real success to find the village atmosphere near Lyon.

MAISON DE LA DANSE

Concert hall for classical music opera and dance
5/5
1 review

The company, which set up 30 years ago in the huge theater of the 8th arrondissement in Bachut, was supposed to open workshops in the walls of the former Guimet Museum in the 6th. And then, the executive having changed, the Workshops will not go any more to Guimet but in a room closer to the House of the Dance. The shows have resumed in a magnificent hall where the greatest French and international companies perform. A program for all styles, from circus to opera and hip-hop.

LE BROC BAR

To make her happy, fulfilled, full of love and beautiful things, put some Broc Bar in your life. Le Broc, the brainchild of Stéphane, who knows all of Lyon - and all of Paris, but that's another story - is the place to be at any time of day - and evening, but that's another story - to meet beautiful people. An inclusive bar run by a cheerful team who serve you like the celebrity you are. A bar where you can come, my darling, with your sandwich from the patisserie next door to enjoy a drink on the terrace. Coffee-croissant in the morning, a board of good produce at lunchtime and a festive aperitif in the evening. Love Broc.

BIERISTAN

Beer bar
5/5
1 review

A territory apart, an enclave of happy "terroirists" in Lyon. Le Bieristan. A republic on the border between a restaurant and a local bar, this warm, cooperative address on the Villeurbanne side (Gratte-Ciel metro station) is a great place to meet up - the premises are rather large - to share good cheer and good craft beers on the 15 draught beers. On the summer terrace, you'll find regional beers - 25 craft and organic breweries within a 200 km radius - and a selection of organic wines, as well as solid dishes made from local, raw, seasonal produce. Concerts, events, Bieristan remains our home for day and night.

A CHACUN SA TASSE

Bar and caf
5/5
1 review

In this refined interior, a grocery oskar oskar of jazzy music, coffee is king. Whether it's Ethiopian, Colombian or house, the water used is filtered with a softener so that it doesn't alter subtle aromas. Cocktails based on coffee, milk or chocolate will be offered. But tea lovers will not be disappointed because you are not proposing less than 100 different kinds. Tea is served in an original and unusual way: on one side, a beautiful steaming teapot, and on the other, a large transparent glass and a tea flower. The latter is dragged into the glass containing the hot water, and after infusion, it opens itself into corolla to allow a delicate scent to be spread. All these delights can be consumed in the living room on the floor, very cosy and can also be bought to has in beautiful places on your shelves.

COMPTOIR SAUVAGE

Coffee shop and tea room
5/5
1 review

In this little street of the Croix-Rousse, Futé saw this Comptoir Sauvage appear with undisguised joy. In the big family of coffee shops, here - at last - is the organic version that will do us good. Run by charming women who know how to cook perfectly, Comptoir Sauvage is a tea room that thinks as much about our environment (no gaspi and waste with the possibility of taking away in its own container), our well-being (gluten-free option, 100% vegetable) as it does about the pleasure of our taste buds. Hot and cold drinks, vegetable milk smoothies, fresh seasonal products and successful home-made recipes. Healthy address noticed by Le Futé.

LE COMPTOIR DU GENTLECAT

Bar and caf
5/5
1 review

A Cat Café is a tea room with different decors where cats roam freely. Let's say immediately that Comptoir du Gentlecat, first of all, takes care of the well being of its cats, which is paramount, and that it obtained the DDPP's agreement of the Rhone and a certificate from the Veterinary School. So the 7 cats are at their home (after a painful disappearance…), on their territory, and they let's contemplate, stroke and play with them at their convenience... Relaxation, rest, tranquillity, well being, this address is much more than a tea room as one can confirm it nowadays. There are some rules however: 10 commandments are to be respected to behave with cats. Let's not forget that we also came here to drink (coffee grounded on the spot, chocolates, a very beautiful selection of teas signed Comptoir du Gentlecat with more than 80 references!) and if you'd like to eat something with delicacies to savour: cookies, muffins, doughnuts, cakes, pastries. A bar for pleasantly purring.

An unexpected destination, to say the least. In this historic district with its exposed stonework, a lush jungle setting in the heart of the city for eating, drinking and listening. Every evening, and on weekends at lunchtime, with a daily special, dishes and fun to share. There's even a brunch club that fills up fast (reservations required). But in this atypical setting, our favorite feature is the wine list created in collaboration with Antic Wine. Superb bottles at all price points and a selection that opens up the terroirs of a dozen countries. Successful cocktails too. A passionate place to share great things to eat and drink.

The times are already scary and you want to add to it? If the answer is yes, go to the escape game that really scares. If you want to test your horror skills, welcome to Dark Experience. Saint-Paul isn't the only place to take the train. You can also enjoy a good glass of wine and travel through the terroirs of France and the world. La Cave des Voyageurs opened its doors opposite Vieux Lyon station over 25 years ago. This makes it Lyon's oldest wine bar. It's a Lyonnais address at heart, where you need to take your time to enjoy your meal. Superb selection. Emotionally-charged bottles and prices to match. To keep your spirits up and extend the evening, the charcuterie and cheese platters do the trick. Follow the tasting program to make sure you don't miss out on any of the Cave's destinations.

In the heart of the Pentes, Le Bec de Jazz seems out of time with its Bird style club atmosphere. The walls are covered with the gigantic paintings of the owner. Tchangodei sometimes lets his fingers run over the piano to treat the regulars to his compositions. Unjustly unknown jazzman, this Beninese by origin and Lyonnais by adoption, has participated in about twenty albums. In his establishment, of which you have to become a symbolically contributing member, the hours don't count and you come out in the early morning, drunk with music and fresh (or almost) as a rose.

THE STAR FERRY

4/5
4 reviews

The Star Ferry, a tribute to a ferry sailing on the side of Hong Kong. On Quais du Rhône, the Star Ferry is typically a seasonal address, opening with the sun, closing with the first cold and big storms in summer. From the very first sunny days, beer flows like water in what it's agreed to call a beer garden, with a choice of 80 bottled beers and no less than 12 draught ones! A mandatory terrace to sit and enjoy the homemade specialty, burgers. Sandwiches that are themed, even exotic, composed of honourable ingredients, but with meat always overcooked to our taste. Although the fries are crispy to eat, chewing the burger can be complicated. Come on, take a beer to get it through… No desserts, except ice-creams. At the end of the day, the burger/beer comes back at about twenty euros, for a hardly adequate quality and a service that is extended (it's not easy to satisfy the desires of the entire terrace on a summer evening) but remains smiling. A half-tone address that allows you to spend pleasant moments on the banks of the Rhône.

A place dedicated to comedy and laughter, to revivals of classic texts and to the most unusual creations, can only be salutary at a time when the performing arts need our support. According to our French taste, Starbucks does not always offer the "best coffee in the world" and we will stubbornly continue to defend the "Café Comptoir", the "little black" in the morning with the unequalled taste when shared with friends. Because can we really share in Wi-Fi mode behind your laptop, even on a comfortable seat? It's up to you. For the rest, it's possible to fall for the craft coffees that you can personalize by adding some "extras" which also incur some additional charges. Futé must admit a weak for the Macchiato Caramel for the long winter days. In summer, we are tempted by the Frappuccino collection with always the possibility to personalize our cold drink. The other reason for falling is the by-products, especially, the famous Lyonese tumbler.

Some 3 000 places in 14 fully equipped rooms. Premières, major national and international outings, VOST and VF, meetings for children. A system that makes it possible not to queue at the cashier, and a restoration space. For the technical aspect: its DTS or Dolby stereo depending on the rooms. Friendly catering offer in the immediate vicinity for all tastes, especially in the cinema lobby with a modern brew.

TEAM BREAK LIVE ESCAPE GAME

Escape game
4/5
2 reviews

In the Escape Games sector - these play rooms in "live" with the principle of escaping from a room in less than 60 minutes - Team Break is a precursor, since the "rooms" (this is what you need to call the coins) opened their doors (finally, how to speak) in March 2015. A Escape Game created in Paris that quickly took in Lyon, with a successful installation in this corner of the 6 th arrondissement near the Brotteaux and Cours Lafayette. Probably not the largest of the Escapes in Lyon, but the two missions you can choose will cause a nice rise in adrenaline in your veins. At Team Break, who has been able to invent its own universe - close to the BD - with nasty méchants names, participants will need to save the world either by defusing a thermo bomb trapped in a bunker or by creating an antidote to the highly contagious Zombie virus that risks invading the world. Adventures to share with family or friends to live together intense moments.

Closed is an escape game that takes you to several rooms, also called rooms, to live life-size and immersive adventures. Several themes are proposed to the participants: "Escape if you can", where you will have to escape from a cell in order to prove your innocence, "Orion", a space adventure worthy of Star Wars, "The Missing", where you will have to find Mary in the house of a voodoo priestess, or "Dr. Kwan's Asylum", where you will have to escape from a disused psychiatric hospital located in North Korea

HOPPER

Beer bar
4/5
2 reviews

Hopper rhymes with beer. And that's just as well, because this handsome bar at the Saxe-Gambetta crossroads, conveniently located just off the metro, has all the hallmarks of a brewery and pub, with its decor of copper pipes, vats and graffiti. It's a cosy place to enjoy one of the 18 draught beers or the 20 or so bottled beers that take you on a journey around the globe. Home-made smoothies and pressed juices to quench your thirst without alcohol. Don't drink on an empty stomach: pizzas, salads, burgers, croque-monsieur with truffled ham, seasonal platters and daily specials. An urban refuge where you can recharge your batteries.

BLACK FOREST SOCIETY

World bar
4/5
2 reviews

On the program: German humor (yes, there is such a thing), German tapas (always better than English ones) and German-loving cocktails. Without doubt the bar with the most offbeat ambience, which can bring tears of joy to our eyes with its communication and cocktails that don't get drunk anywhere else. It has to be said that the cheerful team - re-titled La Mannschaft - unearths ingredients that are as good as they are surprising. Guaranteed sausages, craft beers, a friendly atmosphere and optional Lederhosen. Ein Prosit! Drink up.

THÉÂTRE DE LA TÊTE D’OR

Theater
4/5
2 reviews

Lyon's first private theater, launched on January 17, 1980, and run by Pascal Héritier and Bruno Davanzo. The current venue on avenue de Saxe can accommodate 371 spectators between two confinements, and is often sold out. Audiences who book their seats at the Théâtre de la Tête d'Or well in advance know they're in for a good laugh, with plenty of misunderstandings and enthusiastic actors - often stage stars. The venue specializes in boulevard comedy and vaudeville, not forgetting the chansonniers.

VÉRITABLE THÉÂTRE GUIGNOL

Theater
3.8/5
4 reviews

While we await the hypothetical reopening of a VTG castelet (not to be confused with a fast train) at the GHD (we like to leave you in the lurch when it comes to initials), back to square one at the Parc de la Tête d'Or, where it all began for this company over 75 years ago. Guignol is a monument to Lyon's heritage, with its famous puppets and colorful characters. A Lyonnais tradition to be respected by all ages, as the show offers different levels of interpretation, not all of them innocent... Guignol, it's so good!

LE BERANGER

Bar and caf
4/5
1 review

In a street of the "top" of the 6 th arrondissement, that is, after the railway route, between two buildings, the Béranger is a coffee counter as you love them. One of these neighborhood addresses is that you go between lovers of good things, non-deceptions conviviality and total generosity. Coffee-counter, it also means that the address opens early in the morning with its bistro room where you can enjoy the news of the day and a machon to Lyon. In the afternoon, it is a nice, guinguette terrace, which is very popular in the beautiful season, or warm rooms. It must be said that in the Judah family, you know how to receive and taste for beautiful and good things! A choice of hearty salads for lunch, a nice dish of the day with a pistaché sausage and some other lyonnaiseries from the local to delight us in all seasons. The spirit and taste of the houses that the Smart warmly recommends.
