BUVETTE DU ROCHER DES DOMS

Bar and caf
4.3/5
4 reviews

It's one of Avignon's well-known little addresses on the hill overlooking the Palais des Papes, otherwise known as the Rocher des Doms, laid out as an English garden. The climb may seem arduous, but the reward is at hand when you arrive at the glass and metal pavilion bordering a pond, where you can sit down for a drink, an ice cream or lunch: salads, tartines and daily specials. The little tourist train makes it easy to get around if you need to.

La Compagnie des chats is a restaurant-café-teahouse for cats. The decor is cool, with exposed stonework, a climbing wall for felines and comfortable sofas. Kittens wander around the different areas: here, everything is allowed except access to the kitchen. The health and safety standards are very strict, and Compagnie des Chats has been awarded top marks. Cats entrusted to us by animal protection associations are available for adoption. If you like these cute little felines, their presence at the table will be most agreeable!

LE CERCLE RÉPUBLICAIN

Bar and caf
5/5
1 review

This café is the original heart of the village. Don't hesitate to go through its austere facade, behind which you can see the small terrace that opens onto the valley. In the room, the regulars and, in season, many tourists: the seats are very popular and few. The terrace is small, but it offers a fantastic view that will leave you with a radiant memory of the Luberon and its conviviality. To have a drink, take a break and chat with the locals, this place is perfect!

Close to the rue de la République, this almost confidential but renowned art house cinema in Avignon, has an elegant lobby, all woodwork on a red background. A single room with 140 seats, the programming is rather limited, from 3 to 5 screenings during the day, this cinema welcomes the same type of films and the same public as its big sister with 4 rooms Utopia Manutention. You can sit down at Café Roma, the Manutention's restaurant, before or after the screening.

CINÉMA LE RIVOLI

Cinema
4/5
1 review

This "small" independent cinema opened in 1985 in Carpentras. He was picked up in 1993 by Florence Passalacqua and his husband, and can boast very satisfactory figures even though he has to deal with the mastodons of the Commerciaux-Pathé of commercial centres: more than 17 000 entries per year, a little less than 300 screened films and an extension that follows its course, since it has gone from 2 rooms during its recovery, to 4 today, most equipped for people with reduced mobility. The issue of digital switchover arises, but for the rest, this couple of passionate people will lose sight of their convictions: a striking balance between blockbusters/public films ("Harry Potter", "Sherlock Holmes", "Untouchables"…) and independent art and essay films with "young public" labels, "I am called Bernadette", "It was Anatolia", "La twig", etc. Also a space for receiving it. school and film fans, for moments of theme and sharing encounters around one or more films.

LE 17 PLACE AUX VINS

The bar is neat and a little rocky at the same time. The judicious arrangement of great vintages as well as more modest ones, which tourists and connoisseurs should not hesitate to frequent. And beware: the house "does not shy away from any sacrifice": it combines the functions of cellar, wine bar with a possible snack menu, introductory workshops in oenology and sommelier advice, weddings and other festivities... To follow, their Facebook page which is very active. It is also a place known to be the meeting place for singles.

CAFÉ DE LA FONTAINE

Bar and caf

We like to settle here in any season. The terrace overlooks the fountain, we sit there with pleasure. We stop for a coffee, a tea with a pastry, to sip a lemonade, a fruit juice, a glass of local wine or a pastis, and to nibble some Corsican specialities (cooked pork meats, figatelli...). We let ourselves go to remake the world under the soft Provencal sun. The cuisine is simple, the menu varied, the plates colorful, copious. The personnel is with the small care. Here, it smells like vacations all year long.

SIMPLE SIMON

Coffee shop and tea room
3.7/5
3 reviews

It always surprises tourists and has been delighting Avignon residents for years with its British brunches. Yes, it's a real English tea room and it's unbeatable. What can we say about its scones, cheesecakes and other cakes on the floor except that they are to die for. The service is also English style with porcelain flower cups, we love it! Of course, savoury fans can choose the egg with bacon. The whole thing is accompanied by a tea that you can choose from a selection of about twenty flavours. Let's go!

LA POTERNE

Bar and caf
3.5/5

A building out of exposed stones located in bottom of the village, right before the botanical trail, and which is melted with wonder with the landscape of the caladées narrow streets. It is very small but the terrace... it is the Mont Ventoux! One tastes dishes vegetarians or vegan. One takes the aperitif by dividing into sheets a book. Hey yes, it is also a bookstore with a pointed selection of works on Ventoux. And one lets oneself wrap by the grandiose landscape by listening to the concert. Can one better dream? How what, small village, small café, but great ideas!

O’COLLIN'S IRISH PUB

Whisky bar
3.5/5
2 reviews

Its green facade and the barrel installed in front of the door: the traditions of the Irish pub are displayed. It is one of the bars where Avignon likes to party and where you know there will always be people no matter what day of the week. There are concerts, rather rock and sometimes folk, broadcasts of matches - football or rugby - and special evenings like St. Patrick's Day (of course!). The atmosphere is often overheated and the bells synonymous with tips ring out loud. Whisky lovers should take a look at the menu.

LE CAFÉ DE LA COMÉDIE

Bar and caf
2.3/5
3 reviews

The Café de la Comédie has a special history because it takes its name from the first "Italian" theatre in Avignon, inaugurated in 1732. It will be sold out for more than 100 years. It is the Place de l'Horloge theatre that will steal the show. Today the café is opposite the mythical Hotel de l'Europe, located on one of the most beautiful squares in Avignon. Its large terrace is in the shade of one of the two gigantic trees of the Place Crillon. It is very popular with the people of Avignon. Good value for money. Warm welcome.

LE MARIGNY

Bar and caf

Don't miss it with its beautiful bright red facade. Intimate atmosphere of a small district bar just steps from Crillon Square and just opposite the oldest hotel in Avignon, the hotel of Europe. The Marigny is a kind of small popular oasis in the chic neighborhood. There is a good feeling: the atmosphere is rather family-friendly, prices are very affordable, and the whole press (regional, sporting and national) as well as a tobacco flow. The owners of the sites welcome the long-awaited people with great smiles and small friendly ribbons in the back. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Especially recommended in summer to enjoy the terrace while not suffering from the cagnard!

L’ENTR’ACTE

Bar and caf

The crowded establishment at the festival proves to be much calmer the rest of the year. We come here before you will pout for the deliciously shaded terrace that is suitable for discussions between friends with a drink. The chef, quiet, makes salads to small onions or small, simple dishes. A café that is especially worth the detour in summer for its situation far from urban unrest and for the fountain of the tune place Louis-Pasteur, in which we gladly trempe its feet. It is also popular with university students, who have only a few metres to do to rally it.
