MOULIN BONAVENTURE

Olive oil producer
5/5
1 review

The olive oil produced here is a little jewel. From the 6 ha of organically grown olive trees, Guillaume produces: an explosive Haute-Provence PDO, 2 mono-varietal oils based on bouteillan and aglandau, and 2 lemon or bergamot flavoured oils. The olives are harvested by hand to ensure optimum ripeness and quickly pressed to retain maximum flavour. And in an eco-friendly spirit, Guillaume uses the remaining olive paste to spread on his land as fertilizer, and the stone waste to fuel the stove.

Isabelle's oils are just like her: full of vigour and very fruity! It must be said that she pampers her 4,000 olive trees of the Aglandau and Bouteillan varieties: reasoned treatments and olive picking with a feeler. Since 2006, she has her own mill in order to fully control her production of unfiltered PDO Haute-Provence, which gives it an incomparable texture. Her olive oil has already won a gold medal at the Concours National des Huiles de France in Nyons. Call early in the morning at the mill to be sure of its presence!

Situated at an altitude of 450 m, the Salvator estate is made up of 40 hectares of multi-centenary olive trees. This terroir gives Sophie and Frédéric Pinatel's olives a unique character. Four oils are extracted: cuvée Mistral AOP Haute-Provence, cuvée Durance AOP Haute-Provence (aglandau), cuvée Paradis AOC Provence (bouteillan) and cuvée Ventaïre AOC Provence (fruité noir in organic conversion). These cuvées regularly win awards (even standing ovations) at all the major agricultural competitions. A fine achievement.

André-Michel Breger invites you to take a trip back in time. Back in the days when olives were crushed by millstones driven by donkeys or mules, when the olive paste obtained was then placed in scourtins, a sort of large flat beret, and then compressed in order to harvest the precious nectar... Thanks to this enthusiast who has restored this mill, which probably dates from the 15th century (the last one left in France), you can not only make a very instructive visit but also taste a quality AOP Haute-Provence oil.

The mill's renaissance began a few years ago with Bruno, who restored a hundred centuries-old olive trees and created a new impetus in the village. Another Bruno (from his first job as an olive grower) took up the reins and created a 4,000-tree organic orchard. He welcomes you to his mill, where you can discover his production workshop and store for olive oil made from local olives: the Aglandeau variety. Bruno also works with small local producers who entrust him with their olives. Local products in the store.

Created in 1928, the Olivette mill has accompanied the history, development and modernization of local olive growing throughout the 20th century... And it still accompanies more than 2,000 cooperators in the region! After being one of the first French mills to buy an olive washing machine in the 1970s, it is now one of the mills equipped with a continuous extraction system. The mill produces two appellations: AOP Haute-Provence (with an organic variant) and AOC Provence, as well as an oil called "de France" (with a subtle fruity taste).
