THE DUNGEON AND THE VIC'S CASTLE

Monuments to visit

Enjoy the majestic facade of the castle of this castle, a former residence of the abbots of Saint-Médard, framed by two mass towers and surmounted by a th century pediment awarded to Visseaux. It opens onto a large terrace overlooking the charming French garden attributed to Le Nôtre. Its lounges would have welcomed guests of quality: Mazarin and the Cardinal of Bernis wrote his memoirs, or the Viscount de Reiset who was the benefactor. A large driveway bordered by yew leads to a colonnade also signed by Visseaux. The castle's dungeon dates back to the th century, while the residential part is after five centuries. 25 meters high, it is built on the basis of a rectangle, three angles of which are we of towers. The walls have a thickness of 2 metres at the base. On a special day in July or August, the site has a special atmosphere: Galantes festivals envelop the castle of music, dance and light for a poetic appointment.

BERNOVILLE CASTLE

Castles to visit

This sober castle hides its game. With its 2 800 m 2, it is one of the largest in the region. After its construction in the th century, by the Chastenet family of Puységur, the monument went hand in hand: the Camp-Laurent family and then the Hennet family. Like many other castles, that of Bernoville suffered during the two world wars, first occupied in 14 by the Germans and then destroyed, it will be restored before being left behind after 1944. In 2005, work will be saved and given its current appearance. Also visit the 20 ha of the park that borders the castle.

GAUTHIER DE COINCY AND FRANÇOIS AUGUSTIN FERDINANT TAGLIABUE

Places associated with famous people to visit

Coincy is a small village, in the image of its illustrious characters. For example, Gauthier de Coincy, born in Coincy in 1178, is nothing but one of the greatest French medieval poets. Excuse the little. He is told that he is the inventor in poetry of the octosyllabe and the Précurseur precursor. With the stage adaptation of his work "Les Miracles de Notre Dame" he is also one of the western theatre inventors. Another character, other destiny, that of François Augustin Ferdinant Tagliabue, born in 1822 here. After becoming a priest in 1848, he was sent to the mission of evangelization in Mongolia and then to China and became, as a result of his action, a apostolic vicar of Beijing. A funeral plaque, located in the church of the commune, recounts his life.

THE COMMUNAL BOUNDARY MARKERS

Monuments to visit

The municipality has a rarity: communal terminals. Listed in the Additional Inventory of Historical Monuments, there are 43. Each measure is close to 2 m and weighs more than 500 kg. They define the boundaries of the lands of the former abbey, and even today the limits of the commune. They carry the arms of Coincy Abbey (two crossed keys and a straight sword), and sometimes a cross of Saint-André.

THE HOTEL-GOD

Public buildings to visit

Those who do not want to miss anything from the municipality will be able to go to the Hotel de Ville, founded, like the St. front chapel, by Queen Jeanne of Evreux in the th century. The building served as a tower, a hospice, a girls'school, a military hospital (during the wars of 1870 and 1914-1918) and a retirement home. Today, it is home to the Youth of the Commune Service and the initiative union.

THE MILL OF THE PLAIN

Monuments to visit

The Mill of the plain was originally a flour mill. It consisted of two wheels, one on each side of the river until 1838, when an application for authorization was filed to transform it into one wheel. On the death of the owner, in 1914, the activity was managed by his widow, who could not prevent the bankrupt from entering the 1920 s. Acquired a few years later by a company (the large mills in Marle), it became the largest mill in the Aisne, with production of more than 400 000 quintals per year.
