At the corner of Jeanne-d'Arc Boulevard and the Rue du Théâtre-Romain, the terrain has a steep slope. Built on the natural slope of Saint John hill, the Romans cut it into a north-south direction. Excavations carried out during the first half of the 144 th century attributed the theatre of Soissons to the first and second centuries and ranked it among the largest in Roman Gaul, metres in diameter.
