Read moreBuilt in 1491, it was designed by Boytac, the architect of the Jerónimos monastery in Belém. It is also called the church of the monastery of Jesus, a convent for nuns of the order of Poor Clares built in 1490 outside the city walls. It is one of the first Manueline style buildings with the superb twisted marble columns of the Arrábida. The 18th century azulejos that decorate the walls of the nave illustrate scenes from the life of the Virgin Mary.
