Monuments to visit Marne

Behind the high wrought iron gates that line this remarkable site, you can admire the late 19th century mansions of the houses of Auban-Moët, Chandon, Maigret, Gallice, de Billy or Mercier. Today, the greatest champagne houses in the world, which make the reputation of the city, have their headquarters here and offer tours of the cellars with tasting at the end. A few meters underground, a labyrinthine network of nearly 110 km of cellars contains a real treasure: over 200 million bottles.

Set in a church of the th century, the treasure of the place dates from the th century: The Flemish altarpiece in hard wood or carved and painted oak illustrates the flamboyant Gothic style. This is an admirable work at the German school in Nuremberg, done in Antwerp. Visit: 3 €.

Only this house remains the facade you can see in the courtyard of the old library. Originally located at 7, on rue Flodoard, this building belonged to Louise de Savoie, mother of François I, and the lady of Epernay who loved the city and the Champagne vineyards. It was built in 1520 and burned down in 1544.

Built by Jean I de Dormans in the 14th century, the castle of Dormans has been the domain of illustrious people such as Cardinal Jean II, the Grand Condé or the Marshal de Broglie. Today owned by the city of Dormans, this magnificent building cannot be visited, but you can still admire its architecture by visiting the Memorial of the Battles of the Marne, walking in its beautiful wooded park of 25 hectares and crisscrossing the paths of its garden between its fishing ponds, its rivers, its cascades and its Japanese bridges.

In the heart of a beautiful wooded park of 25 hectares, the old mill of the Château d'en Haut houses one of the largest indoor water wheels in France with its 8 meters diameter. The buildings dating from the 17th and 18th centuries have been entirely restored and now house a museum on the first floor. You will discover the life of the Champagne region in the last century through a collection of old tools exposed in thematic rooms: the workshop, the cellar, the bakery and the mobile still... A picturesque curiosity to discover!

This column is located on the edge of departmental 933, at the limit of Aisne and la Marne, at the location where Napoleon was held 1 st to order his troops at the Battle of Montmirail - Walking-en-Brie on February 11, 1814. 18 metres high, in Corinthian style, the monument is surmounted by a stone crown on which a golden eagle (1 m 42 of height and 1 m 30 of height for 500 kg weight) to greenhouses supported on a sphere, half-éployées wings and head east. This monument, inaugurated in 1867, was restored in 1913 for the celebration of the centenary of battles in 1958, and in 2014 for the major events commemorating the battles of Napoleon's Campaign of France 1.
