Practical information : Take a break Ibiza
Timetable
Bakeries, cafeterias and ice-cream parlors are generally open all day, until around 8pm, or even a little later for ice-cream shops (a good ice-cream is always a good idea for dessert in this heat!). However, there are no hard and fast rules here, and to avoid wasting your time, it's best to make a quick phone call. Bars generally open around 7-8pm and close around 2am, or even 4am in some cases. As for happy hours, there's no fixed rule here either: some offer them in the middle of the afternoon, others much later.
Budget & Tips
Prices for gourmet breaks and alcoholic beverages are generally lower than in France (with the exception of discotheques and similar establishments). Ibiza's pastry shops are highly recommendable (especially the delicious ensaïmadas), as are the famous hierbas ibicencas!
Age restrictions
As in France, alcohol consumption is forbidden to minors (18 years) in Spain, and therefore in Ibiza.
What's very local
Among Ibiza's great gourmet specialties, ensaïmada (although originally from Menorca) is a classic among islanders, as is flaó ibicenco, a kind of aniseed and mint custard tart. When it comes to liqueurs, the digestif known as hierbas ibicencas is a must!
Kids
Children are generally accepted wherever a bar permit is not in force. However, they may sometimes be allowed on a bar terrace until early evening.
Smokers
While smoking is prohibited in gourmet shops, cafés and bars, until recently smokers were welcome on the terraces of these same establishments. However, pandemic-related restrictions changed all that, and by 2021, smokers were invited to take a step back to smoke.
