VAL DE LA CHÈVRE

Cider grower

The oldest orchard on this cider farm, located 15 kilometers from Rennes, dates back to 1946. A visit to the store is an opportunity to learn about the history of the Val de Chèvre farm, named after the nearby river. Régis Tropée has been running his organic orchards here since 2007. He produces cidre bouché, apple juice, pommé (a local specialty resembling apple jam) and homemade creations such as Stumm Breizh and Glizh mead. For the past few years, Régis has been offering deliveries... by bike in Rennes!

LOÏC RAISON

Cider grower

It would take a book to tell the dynasty. Before being a brand "Loïc Reason" is first the story of the Reason family, born at the beginning of the last century with Louis, the patriarch, the traveling grocer who launched a trading activity with farmers in the region in 1918. So the idea is developing: the cider he manufactures is delivered to grocery stores, restaurants and local cafés. He then became a travelling distiller on behalf of farmers while continuing to work his own apples. In 1934, Louis, his son, joined the company to which he took the reins in 1945, giving him the impetus of national development with the marketing of cider in bottle. With this innovative idea, the Cider de grew up under the brand name «Doma» with several bottling chains to respond to an ever larger clientele. In 1949, 30 000 bottles are packed every day and transported on the roads of Brittany. In the early 1960 s, "Doma" became "Reason." She will become "Loïc Reason" in 1983. " Loïc "for Louis in Breton. Here, know-how has been at work for 90 years. The manufacture, from the apple plantation to the selection of varieties, the collection of fruit, and pressing them up to their bottling, passes through the expert hands of women and men of the House, some present for over 40 years. A guarantee of confidence for this renowned cooperative that combines cider in all its forms, from soft to crude, stamped with the protected geographical indication (PGI) and the logo "Product in Brittany". The Cider and Raspberry, new 2014, just expanded the family. Damage: we are not visiting!

V AND B

Sale of wines and spirits

The first store V and B was born in Château-Saved in 2001. Currently, 107 stores are open in France. In Rennes, in addition to Lorient Street, a second boutique has been opened since March 2015. Another novelty: a VIP space was created at Roazhon Park in August 2015. V and B are 500 m ² in which there is a wine cellar, a beer cellar and a particularly lively and warm tasting area. The formula put forward by the professor sums up the concept: 50% cellar, 50% bar, 100% V and B. In sum, a perfect place for lovers of various drinks who enjoy conviviality and end up with quality products, which are not everywhere. For those who want to find good whiskies or spirits, there are plenty of proposals: what to find the rare pearl. Florence, Olivier and their team welcome you to share their passion by putting even further work as the shop is open until. The principle is simple: after the work between friends or colleagues, we come to the numerous tastings. We love the place because the number of references is impressive, we are well advised and we find good ideas to offer. The real plus: these are the numerous animations and tastings that are organised regularly, making the cellar very lively and friendly. We even dare to talk about a bunch of friends. A dynamic and smiling team that immediately welcomes you as soon as you move the door.

VODKA LAB

What a welcome in this little lab that exudes friendliness! Monica is a real human encyclopedia of the Russian drink. She shares with us her taste for the "little water" (which means vodka in Russian) and takes us behind the scenes of its origin... from the distillation method to its composition. We even find the purest vodka (distilled 34 times), which was produced by Frédéric Beigbeder (Le Philtre), the one aged in barrels, which can be found on Polish tables (Soplica) and even the one produced directly by Vodka Lab. If most of them are Russian or Polish, there are also some French bottles (a vodka produced on the island of Ré). Cheers!

LA BELLE VILAINE

Sale of wines and spirits

The Belle Vilaine can manufacture cider and apple juice as a person. It is a beautiful address for real pure cider, pure juice, made in an artisanal way 15 minutes from the centre of Rennes. The Belle Vilaine offers real nectar for a few pennies more than in the supermarket. Their apple juice is fermented to wish, fruity, semi dry or raw (more alcoholic) according to your convenience and by regaling with a good glass of this beverage, you also made a gesture that counts for the preservation of traditional know-how dating from the th century. A family business, Cellier Est is first a story of passion, people who drawn the apple being small. It is true that the catchment area is an ideal land for the production of sweet, acidic or bitter apples. More than anywhere in Brittany, it has climatic assets (rain, temperature, basement) that apple trees love in sunny orchards. On site, complete your shopping with a little cider conflict or apple juice jelly - both have a distinctly different taste, the jelly being more sweet. New, the beautiful ugly man also proposes a cottage: independent with a fenced garden, fully equipped with modern comfort. Consult! A very beautiful address.

Here the spirit is king! On the advice of Ewan, who organizes every Friday "tasting" evenings, we discover rums, gins, whiskies offered pure or with original softs. Bartender for nearly 20 years, notably at La Belle Epoque in Saint-Malo, he offers an impressive selection: agricultural rums, candy rums, arranged rums and collectible rums. LE VIN VIVANT

Caviste

Bright with its large bay windows overlooking the Mall, mineral with its counter made of black Huelgoat rock and its engraved monolith, Fabien and Alex's wine cellar exudes naturalness and authenticity. It's not for nothing that 85% of the wines here are biodynamic and sourced directly from independent winemakers. The two friends have made four trips around France to select more than 250 wine references, and they'll be going back again! A little literary wink: a bookseller's ladder gives access to the highest bottles, because there are literally bottles from floor to ceiling! In addition to the wines, there is a nice selection of beers from here and elsewhere, including more confidential breweries that Alex discovered during his years in London and New Zealand. Gins, whiskies, vodkas, rums and ports are also on offer. To accompany these beverages, you can choose from cheeses matured in Brittany (Ma Belle Fromagerie in Étrelles), fish rillettes from Finistère or organic sausages and pâtés. A good idea: tasting evenings to exercise your palate in a friendly atmosphere.

KYSTIN

Cider grower

Behind Kystin lies a passionate man, Sasha Crommar, who has one conviction: exceptional ciders and perries exist, you just have to put your heart into them. After working for some fifteen years as a cellar master, the man founded the Kystin house, first with a boutique in Vannes, then in Rennes. Here, we're treated to tastings of the company's creations, such as the surprisingly delicious PDO chestnut cider or the roasted buckwheat cider. The house also offers its ice cider, a sweet delight that works equally well as an aperitif or dessert. All original creations can be combined with a wide range of dishes. It's hard not to fall for them!

BRASSERIE SMASH

Craft brewery and microbrewery

We discovered this new Rennes brewery by chance during an evening at Hibou Grand Duc. Enthralled by the Hyperpop IPA (a short-lived beer) and the Vitrine lager, a delicate and refreshing beer, we then went to discover this new Rennes brewery, which opened last November. At the studio, you'll find the work of Rennes-based visual artist Tom Nelson, and above all, you'll be able to buy his craft beers direct, and why not a banana or a Smash t-shirt in the process. For those who prefer to sit on the terrace of a bar, head for La Piste, La Cavale, Le Saint-Germain, La Nouba and Le Hibou to feast in moderation.

In her cellar-counter, opened in 2022, Margaux distills her love of wine into conversation, but not just any wine. The young woman selects only natural, biodynamic wines, vinified without inputs or additives. In particular, she highlights wines from Provence, her region of origin, as well as women winemakers... with an emphasis on small, committed operations. She also offers local beers, organic ciders and delicatessen products from Brittany. In the spirit of a neighborhood bar, the cellar also serves as a bar on weekends, where visitors can extend their conversation over a drink. L'AMUSE BOUCHE

He assures us that he has tasted almost all of the 200 or so wine references! Sébastien Auberville is the proud owner of L'Amuse-bouche, a new winery in the town center. Originally from the South of France, his wine-growing experiences led him to open his own store, in his own way. Here, bottles are presented by food and wine pairing. It's easy to go from specialties for an aperitif to wines to enjoy with white or red meat or fish. The wine merchant selects ethical wines, mostly organic or biodynamic.
