BAYMAN TRIATHLON
Read moreIt's one of the most recent triathlons on the French triathlon scene, having been held for the second time at the end of September. And yet, if many people are familiar with it, it's because the setting is so sumptuous: Mont Saint-Michel and its bay. This triathlon, which comes in three formats (M, L, XXL), sees you swim in the white waters of the Couesnon, cycle through the green local countryside, and finally run to finish in style at the foot of the archangel. Sporting and emotional sensations guaranteed.
ENDURO DES SABLES
Read moreIt's one of the best-known races in the department: at the end of August, hundreds of runners gather on the immense beach of Agon-Coutainville, ready to rush across the sand. In addition to the difficulty of running on ground that's not always stable, facing the elements, including the wind, is another challenge! Several races are offered, with distances ranging from 7 to 20 kilometers. Guaranteed atmosphere and professional organization are just some of the advantages that encourage many amateurs to try this unique experience.
LA BARJO
Read moreIt is a sporting event that has become, in just a few years, a real local monument, known to all in the Cotentin. Solo, in teams or in relays, meet for the most "barge" trail in Normandy! The Barjo, which leaves Barneville-Carteret at 6:00 am, crosses some of the most beautiful landscapes of the western Cotentin to arrive at Beaumont-Hague: the beaches of Le Rozel, Sciotot and Vauville, the capes of Le Rozel and Flamanville, and of course the heights of the Hague. There are several trails to choose from: 15, 24, 42 or 87 km.
La Traversée de l'île de Tatihou / La course du Run
Read moreA nature race close to the sea, and even partly in the sea! At the end of July, the Run starts in Saint-Vaast and invites you to run 8 km, including the tour of the island of Tatihou. Specificity: the sea rises quickly and, if your feet are dry (or almost) on the way out, it is on the way back that the tidal range makes you run in several tens of centimeters of water. An unusual event that brings together athletes, the curious and enthusiasts.
CHALLENGER CHERBOURG - LA MANCHE
Read moreThe department's biggest and most prestigious tennis tournament takes place every year in Cherbourg! The challenger, as it's called, takes place every year at the end of winter at the Chantereyne complex. Launched in 1994 as an ATP-certified indoor hard-court event with tens of thousands of euros in prize money, it has seen some of the biggest names in French and world tennis pass through its doors, from Rafael Nadal at the dawn of his incredible career to Novak Djokovic. On the French side, Tsonga, Grosjean, Clément and Simon have all hit the Cotentin ball.
LA CHERBOURGEOISE
Read moreEvery year, the "La Cherbourgeoise" race takes place as part of the "Femmes dans la Ville" festival. The race, which serves as a fitting climax to a week of festivities, is aimed at women, who usually wear pink as a tribute to the fight against cancer. This is only to be expected, since the registration fees for the event are donated to the fight against this disease. The course is relatively short, and there's no competitive spirit here: we celebrate the pleasure of being together!
