ST. URNS CANAL NATIONAL HISTORIC SITE

Natural site to discover

Inaugurated in 1849, the Saint-Ours Canal allowed ships to cross the last obstacle on the waterway between Montreal and New York. The canal, nicknamed the tenth lock of the Richelieu, became indispensable to the region's trade, but also to international trade, for more than a century. Today, it is a place of relaxation that attracts families, walkers and nature lovers. Allow about an hour to tour Darvard Island, visit the Superintendent's house and the fish ladder. Relaxation and picnic areas allow you to spend a pleasant afternoon there, while oTENTik tents invite you to extend the experience for the night. A pleasant getaway, only one hour from Montreal and 30 minutes from Mont-Saint-Hilaire.
