BEAUHARNOIS HYDROELECTRIC PLANT
One of the world's largest and most powerful run-of-river hydroelectric power plants of Hydro-Québec in Beauharnois.
Opened in 1932, this is one of the world's largest hydroelectric power stations, and Hydro-Québec's most powerful run-of-river facility. With 36 turbine-generator units lined up over nearly a kilometer, it's the equivalent of three Eiffel Towers stacked on top of each other! Our guided tour will introduce you to its Art Deco-inspired architecture, the phases of its construction, the stages in the electrification of the Montreal region and its turbine-generators.
