MARCHÉ AUX ÉPICES OU BAZAR ÉGYPTIEN

Market
4.6/5
5 reviews

In Byzantine times, it was a market where Venetians and Genoese sold spices, hence its name "spice market". Every day spices, honeys, cheeses, from the Turkish provinces, aphrodisiac mixtures, dried meats and even domestic animals are negotiated. Much more authentic than the Grand Bazaar, which has become the centre of jewellers and carpet merchants. That being said, jewellers are gaining a little more ground each year.

MARCHÉ DE L'ESQUILIN

Market

This is Rome's largest food market, located in the cosmopolitan Piazza Vittorio Emanuele II, next to Termini. It used to be held in the piazza itself, but was moved to allow the square to undergo a facelift. In a cheerful, colorful atmosphere, the stalls overflow with spices from all over the world. All around, Indian grocery stores and Asian restaurants. Don't miss the fish market. A unique atmosphere and a privileged place in Rome to stock up on exotic produce!

MARCHÉ KOUZNETCHNY

Market

The most popular market in Petersburg. There is also a curious antique shop in the market hall, which is impossible to miss. Pay attention to the babushkas selling solenias, flowers and herbs in front of the market entrance. Sometimes their goods are of better quality and always cheaper than in the stalls under the hall. In the near future, the market will be rebuilt and modernized like the European markets, but it is not yet clear when the work will start.

MARCHÉ DE LA PIAZZA CAMPO DEI FIORI

Market €€

A reference to Rome, the market takes place around the statue of Giordano Bruno, a philosopher monk burned there during the Inquisition, to whom the Italian power of 1870 wanted to pay tribute, as a challenge to the papacy. There are fruits and vegetables, fish, cheeses, delicatessen, flowers, as well as all Roman and Italian specialities. Admittedly, it is not the most typical market in the city as there are so many products intended for tourists, but its visit is pleasant.

MARCHÉ SAINT-ANTOINE CELESTINS

Closed - Open to 06h30

The largest food market in Lyon, along the banks of the Saône, where it is a pleasure to come on Sunday morning. The clientele is happily mixed, from all social classes. It must be said that the setting lends itself to it and that you can find everything with about fifty traders on weekdays and 121 traders on weekends: vegetables, fish, artisanal fruit juices, butchers, delicatessens (especially from the Ardèche), cheeses, flowers... Good idea: plan to withdraw cash the day before or in another place, because the district's distributors are overrun!

MARCHÉ AU POISSON D'EMINÖNÜ (EMINÖNÜ BALIK PAZARI)

Market
4/5

A very nice food market, right next to the Egyptian bazaar, with which it contrasts well. Less tourism, it keeps its commodities for local customers. It buys cheese, honey, pastırma (meat from local Grisons), sucuk (spicy sausage), coffee, tea or olives: the choice is important and of good quality.

BAZAR OSH

Market

The most attractive of Bishkek's markets, west of the city center. Fruit and vegetables, meat and dairy products, spices - you'll find it all here, even exotic fish. One of the large buildings sells fabrics from Turkey, China, the Emirates... and, if you look hard enough, Khan-Atlas fabrics from the Ferghana Valley. Although there are a few local handicraft souvenirs, Osh's bazaar is still largely untouched by mass tourism and you'll find good bargains without being solicited at every stall.

Built in 1838 as Lyon's first indoor market, Les Halles de la Martinière used to house the stalls of local producers. After a long period of neglect, the Halles revived their past 7 years ago. Renovated, they are now home to an independent SCOP grocery store selling seasonal produce from local farms, a grocery store that makes sense for responsible and affordable consumption, favoring direct sourcing from organic or in-conversion organic producers. Fruits and vegetables, fresh produce, excellent cheeses, savory and sweet groceries, bulk products, as well as beverages, cosmetics and cleaning products. Regular events.

BAZAR

Openair market

The best place in Samarkand for gourmet souvenirs: under the large bazaar hall are stalls of sweets (honey, roasted peanuts, sweets of all kinds) and dried fruit: pistachios from Kyrgyzstan, almonds from Andijan, Kashgar grapes... Tasty products to offer to your guests, to take on a trip to brighten up long journeys or to take home to share the flavours of the country. You can also find tioupés, those traditional little skullcaps that Uzbeks all wear on their heads.
