Pyrenean carnival figures such as bears, wild men and white ladies appear on street corners. There's also the fantastic story of His Majesty Sent Pançard (the embodiment of bad feelings) and his court, who come to witness his trial and cremation, the climax of the event. There's no shortage of fireworks: school carnivals, school bear hunts, street passes, strolls, games, a grand ball, fireworks... the whole town is mobilized for a week of total celebration!

CARNAVAL DE BRANTÔME
Read morelisted as part of France's inventory of intangible cultural heritage, the Brantôme carnival keeps the tradition of the Occitan carnival alive. In the run-up to Easter, the carnival is traditionally a time for feasting and merrymaking before the Lenten season. Today, the dates are more widespread in Brantôme, as they are in Périgueux, Nontron with the Soufflaculs, Bergerac, Sarlat and other towns. Make-up, fancy dress, singing and dancing, before setting fire to the vile carnival man known as Pétassou. It's all in good fun, and confetti is the order of the day.
