It's "the biggest theatre in the world"! Thanks to the diversity of its cultural offerings, the Off, an alternative festival created in 1963 by André Benedetto, is one of the largest festivals of independent companies in the world. It transforms the city - suspended signs, flyers with catchy words, acrobats competing with imagination to bait the barge. Companies come and go from far and wide. Everything is conducive to theatrical gesticulations: improbable places arranged (garage, corridors, barge ... but also disused school and gymnasium).

By taking the route of La Corniche from Toulon, or from Seyne and Saint-Mandrier, you will discover the Fort Balaguier on the seafront. A magical place with remarkable gardens where the theatre has enjoyed its success, and where the rooms come to enchant your summer evenings! Here, in open skies, the 2013 edition featured the plays of Marc Camoletti, Xavier Duranger, Philippe Claudel, Farcical, Eric-Emmanuel Schmitt, and the Chopin music, the comic opera Marseille my love, a lyric concert, El Botcho… An enchantment! Tickets can be purchased on site, but we recommend reserving in advance for the chance to see these shows. Take advantage of the museum and the gardens!

Take a leap two thousand years back in time, this is what the Arelate association proposes with its festival organized every year, in August, in the "Little Rome of Gaul". For a week, the city lives to the rhythm of the Roman cohorts marching, gladiatorial fights and street shows. An event for history enthusiasts, as historical accuracy is required here, as well as for those who simply want to dream a little about this glorious era.

Like every year at the beginning of summer, the FID Marseille, International Documentary Festival of Marseille, will allow you to discover a very large program with more than a hundred films taking place in different places of the city: cinemas, theaters, libraries, art galleries... This competition of national and international productions presents world premieres of fiction and documentary works. The FID Lab, which supports international co-production, also organizes a number of off-site screenings and training workshops.

The Festival International de Flamenco de Marseille is now an annual meeting of fans of Spanish music and dance. A colourful high-quality festival. The Marseille Operettas and musical theatre contest is a national and international competition organized by the municipality every year. It is open without distinction to all French or foreign performers. With an international reputation, he promotes new talent in the field of opera and musical theatre. Don't hesitate to discover them, because the tests are public. Candidates may present themselves either as soloist or duo in one of the following three categories: song, fantasy, musical comedy (without microphone). If they wish, candidates registered in the "duettistes" category will also be able to present themselves individually, subject to a second registration file. Candidates will propose at the time of registration, five pieces or pairs of their choice, of which at least two will belong to the French directory: a piece or duo for the eliminatory test, two pieces or pairs for the semi-final, two pieces or pairs for the final.
