Located 70 km from Agra, this wildlife reserve spans three states: Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan. Administered by UP, it covers an area of 5,400 km2. Rarely visited by foreign travellers as it lies a little off the beaten tourist track, this sanctuary will delight nature lovers. It was created to protect endangered species such as the gharial, also known as the Ganges gharial, a species of fish-eating crocodile with an elongated mouth. The sanctuary is also home to sousoucs, Ganges freshwater dolphins, crocodiles, turtles and many varieties of birds.
