If you're heading to the south of Trinidad, you can make a quick visit to Point Fortin on the road to the beaches of the far southwest. A small, active town, it's the last to the south and has a few original features. As you'll see, some of the wooden houses look a little lopsided. This is due to the lake of bitumen that runs underground all around the town, making the ground relatively shifty - a very surprising sight. Don't miss the opportunity to try one of the southern specialities, Seamoss punch, a non-alcoholic cocktail made from seaweed, milk, sugar and spices such as cinnamon and nutmeg.
