Located 27 km south of Ōshima, it is the smallest of the seven islands (4.2 km², 8 km in circumference). Of volcanic origin, it is distinguished by a camellia farm that occupies nearly 60% of its area. The population, consisting of a few hundred people, is concentrated in the north and lives mainly from the extraction of camellia oil. The magnificent flowering takes place between December and February. This island does not offer a nice beach for swimming. You can find some minshuku to stay there for a night or two. To get there from Tokyo, go to Takeshiba pier (2h20 by express).
