Kotor Varoš/Котор Варош (pronounced "kotor varoch") has a population of about 7,000, 82% of which are Bosnian-Serbs. It is the capital of the municipality of Kotor Varoš (population 17,000), in the Bosnian Serb Republic. The city is located 33 km southeast of Banja Luka. There are 3 to 5 bus connections per day from Banja Luka.This small town in the Vrbanja valley lives from agriculture and wood exploitation. Captured by the Bosnian-Serb army in 1992, it was used as a place of detention and its Bosnian-Croat inhabitants (57% of the population in 1991) were expelled. The city is not very welcoming, but the surroundings are pleasant.
