The seat of Washington Parish, the small town of Franklinton was founded in 1819 as Franklin before adopting its present name seven years later. The Bogue Chitto River borders the town to the west and the town is surrounded by farms, some of which offer U-pick blueberries. South of town is Bogue Chitto State Park, where you can camp and enjoy many outdoor activities, including tubing. If you are in Franklinton in October, don't miss the Washington Parish Free Fair, the second oldest fair in Louisiana.
