Craigieburn Forest Park is an alpine forest park, not far from Arthur Pass, that lies between the Wilberforce and Waimakariri Rivers. The site offers beech-studded valleys, tussock-filled meadows, alpine scree, and rugged peaks rising to over 2,000 meters. In this park, which is popular for hiking, mountain biking, climbing and winter sports, you're likely to encounter one of the world's most intelligent birds: the nestor kea, a New Zealand endemic alpine parrot. Please do not feed them, as this will cause their demise.
