About a hundred kilometers from Christchurch (1h20 by car), this small town has taken off thanks to the nearby Mount Hutt (30 minutes away) and its ski resort. It sees tourism as the rhythm of its life in winter and resumes its agricultural activities in summer. Methven is known for its abundance of outdoor activities. Indeed, this friendly community of just under 2,000 people is very popular because it is surrounded by nine ski areas (Mount Hutt is the best known). It is less crowded in the summer, but is known for its scenic hot air ballooning and mountain activities such as mountain biking and hiking.
