The wonderful Lake Tekapo is surely one of the most magnificent lakes in all of New Zealand. Its hypnotic blue color coming from the glaciers, its majestic mountains covered with snow, its wild plains as far as the eye can see... Everything is only delightful and the road from the coast already announces the trend. Its name comes from the Maori word taka, "carpet", and po, "night". It is a must-see in the South Island, where you have to make your reservation in time. The population triples in high season. For some great photos, head to Mount John, via the path that serves its café and observatory. The lupines are visible in spring!
