Located in the Don River Valley, this pretty town is prosperous and pleasant. Inverurie was founded by David de Huntington, the great-great-grandfather of Robert the Bruce. If you're passing through, don't miss the beautiful Castle Fraser - one of the region's must-see castles - as well as other lesser-known but still very interesting sites: the ruins of the medieval church of Kinkell, Mons Grampius (the site of the last Roman battle against the Picts in 84 AD), the Brandesbutt stone (a remarkable Pictish symbolic stone), a stone circle (East Aquhorthies Stone Circle). The city is full of treasures.
