Travel Guide Plateau De Toovii

Located about 45 minutes drive northwest of Taiohae, the Toovii Plateau, perched at an altitude of 800 m, is almost more reminiscent of Swiss mountains than tropical landscapes! Being the only cool spot in Nuku Hiva, it is crossed by the highest road in Polynesia, winding its way up to an altitude of 1,100 m! Artificially planted with pine trees, this lush green plateau is a favourite walking spot for visitors and locals alike, who sometimes come here to hunt goats. The Muake hill is the starting point for Taiohae paragliders; it offers very beautiful panoramas of the eponymous bay, as well as that of Taipivai.
