The valley of Hakamoui, also known as the "Valley of the King", was several centuries ago the stronghold of the Atipapa tribe. The first observable vestige is a massive pae pae which was recently used as a foundation for a now abandoned dwelling. If you spread out the wild grasses, you will discover human figures inlaid in the stone. A little further on, the site of Mataautea, reserved for the chief of the tribe, is dominated by a very old tiki. Further on, the Temenaha pae pae awaits you. All these sites have been restored on the occasion of the 1995 Marquesas festival. Finally, don't miss a stop on the pretty black pebble beach.
