Psili Ammos is without doubt the most beautiful beach on Patmos, and it has to be earned. It's a 40-minute walk under the sun, through a chaotic, rocky landscape, to reach this lost paradise. Avoid the hottest hours of the day, as there's no shade en route (you won't need to bring real walking shoes, as the path is very well marked, but avoid flip-flops). The effort is worth it as soon as you catch sight of the azure bay below, with its long, incredibly soft beach of fine sand. Shaded by a few tamarisk trees, it's exposed to the wind in summer, and waves sometimes break in the afternoon. The advantage of a westerly exposure, however, is the magnificent sunsets. The beach is quite busy in summer. A word of advice: come early in the morning to enjoy it in peace, before the crowds, or stay for sunset (but don't forget you'll have to make your way back in the fading light). Wild camping and nudism are tolerated at one end of the bay. On the other side, a pleasant tavern spreads its tables directly on the sand. Open only in season, it serves good mezzedes. Other dining options: at Diakoftis, you'll find the pleasant Tarsanas restaurant in the shipyard, and the small Diakoftis ouzerie before the trailhead.
