It is the largest island of the Apostle Islands. It can be reached by ferry in the summer and by car or on foot in winter, when the ice is hard enough. This island was the headquarters of trappers and Jesuit missionaries at the time of the discovery of the region. Then the islands were used as stone quarries for the construction of houses. Today, only a couple of hundred people live here year-round, a number that explodes in the summer. The main village on Madeline Island is called La Pointe. Located at the southwestern tip of the island, it has everything travelers need to explore the 20 km of the island and even stay overnight or longer.
