In the heart of a landscape of gentle plains, an incredible little round chapel, the Calvary Chapel, marks the town of Ferreira do Alentejo, of which it has become the symbol. The town most often referred to as Ferreira reigns over a domain of olive groves, cereal crops and irrigated fields. The Nossa Senhora da Conceição church houses the patron saint who is said to have accompanied Vasco da Gama on his voyage to India. Ferreira is also famous for its wooden furniture factory, painted in cheerful colors and decorated with floral motifs: these can be admired at the Canton Fair, held in the second half of June.
