To the north of Bac Hà, a small road winds its way up to the peaks, used by the Hmông people returning from the market to their villages at altitude. It leads through unspoilt countryside. The route heads north into Hà Giang province, passing through the mountainous districts of Xin Mân and Hoang Su Phi. 85 km from Bac Hà (allow 3.5-4 hours by motorcycle), you reach the village of Vinh Quang. The road follows an old mule track, winding around the ridges through some beautiful forest areas. The town of Vinh Quang, which has grown considerably in recent years, is of little interest apart from the Sunday morning market attended by the region's many minorities and the remains of an old French blockhouse... But the Hoang Su Phi district, away from the main tourist flows, offers many opportunities. The region is magnificent, with landscapes of rice terraces that are among the most beautiful in the country (Ha Thanh village). It is populated by numerous ethnic minorities who have preserved their traditional way of life. Hiking is the best way to discover the natural wonders and cultural richness of the people who live in this secluded and still not easily accessible part of Vietnam. Healthy fatigue and the joy of treading forgotten trails...
