The town of Hà Giang, capital of the province of the same name, has no particular tourist appeal. Its geographical position, at the intersection of the north-western and north-eastern loops and the road leading to Hanoi, makes it essentially a gateway to the Dông Van plateau and its magnificent landscapes. For those with little time to spare, the road from Hanoi to Hà Giang (300 km long, approx. 7 hours' journey) avoids the detour to the west or east. Motorcyclists wishing to discover the Dông Van plateau without this long, uninteresting stage can rent a motorcycle in Hà Giang. The range of motorbikes on offer has grown considerably with the increase in the number of tourists, mainly young people, attracted by the mythical roads of Vietnam's far north.
