Going to Asago means following in the footsteps of Japan's mining industry. In addition, the history of the municipality of Asago is very closely linked to that of France. When Japan opened up to the world after the Meiji Restoration, it soon realized that it had shortcomings in many areas. This is why, from 1868 onwards, 24 French engineers, all graduates of the Ecole des Mines, were called to Asago by the Japanese government to modernize the mine's production techniques. Asago commune is located in Tajima province, north of Hyogo prefecture.
