Toyooka is a commune grouping the towns of Kinosaki, Hidaka, Takeno, Izushi and Tantō. It can be easily reached by JR from the railway station at Ōsaka or Kōbe (average travel time is about 2.5 hours for ¥4,840 and ¥4,060 respectively). Although it is not necessary to linger long in Toyooka city centre, there are several places of interest in the surrounding area, including the Oriental Stork Preservation Centre, which is a must for discovering the local wildlife and the close relationship of the local people with this bird. The Park Genbudō is also worth a visit, especially in autumn with its warm colours.
