A small town typical of the Golden West, Cripple Creek is an invitation to travel over time. If the casinos have now replaced his previous saloons and the tourist visits have been home to its former industrial sites, the atmosphere of Western Europe remains intact. Everything is there, the desert backpackers, the typical brick buildings, sometimes egalded by a wall painting and a sulfurous story on the bottom of closed houses, games of games, alcohol and banditry. It's the rush of the Colorado Gold Rush that you can live with. Once you've gone around the small center and tried your luck in one of the many casinos, go to the Heritage Center to learn more about the creation of the city. You discover how this pasture region has become one of the largest mining cities of its time in a few years. Between the time Robert Miller discovered gold in 1890 and the localization by Winfield Scott Stratton of one of the country's largest gold deposits, the city metamorphosed over three hundred to ten thousand inhabitants and hosted the last great wave of gold rush immigration. Cripple Creek's history is also two devastating fires and violent strikes during which minors advocate better working conditions and higher wages. There are many opportunities to recreate this intense past, starting with the visit of an old mine and a steam train through a campaign marked by its industrial heritage.
