Tapachula, the regional capital, has only a few vestiges of the glorious past of this land that was once rich in coffee production, including the Antiguo Palacio Municipal. Nowadays, it is above all a city of passage where the migrants of Central America crowd to try, at the risk of their life, to cross the Mexican territory to join the American mirage. It is therefore also an important gateway for those who wish to reach Quetzaltenango in Guatemala (Puente Internacional Talisman-El Carmen near the city or Dr. Rodolfo Robles further south) or other capitals of Central America.
