El Tránsito is a typical fishing village located between Managua and León, south of Puerto Sandino. Still off the beaten tourist track, it boasts a pristine beach bordered by a barrier of volcanic rock. It's the ideal place for surfers of all levels: beginners can take lessons in one of the surf schools, and advanced surfers can rent equipment and enjoy several excellent spots all year round. There are also some great walks to be had, especially at low tide, when real natural pools appear among the rocks. At night, observe the bioluminescent phytoplankton!
