The charming village of Ojojona is located 34 km south of the capital. Its name means "greenish water" in the lenca language. The city was founded in 1579 by Spanish mines working in gold and silver extraction in the region. There is also the Mine mine on the national coat of arms. Its old colonial city centre has been part of Honduras'national monuments since 1996. The film Amores and Frijoles (2009) were filmed there. It celebrates every year of the employer celebrations: San Sebastián on 20 January and San Juan Bautista on 24 June. A beautiful cabinetmaking shop is located at the entrance to the village. You can visit the Pablo Zelaya Sierra Museum. For a typical lunch, visit the Rancho Chilate (especially the chilate and honey rosquillas). Right next to the village, you can go to the skyline of a hill covered with pine for a nice panoramic view of Ojojona.
