The island remained uninhabited until 1770. Today, about 1 000 inhabitants live on this 12 km 2 islet, mainly lobster fishermen who previously worked for American companies in Boston and New York. In summer, when the ferries resume service, from June to September, the island of Deer remains a magnificent refuge for tourists who love calm and nature. They can even make a wild camping. They will find a hiking trail and points of observation to admire the Old Sow, the largest marine tourbillon in the Western hemisphere. The island of Deer is also an obligatory passage when you want to go to the nearby Campobello Island, famous for Roosevelt's family house.
