This modern town is one of the largest in central Newfoundland and has an international airport. During World War II, Gander was a military airport responsible for the defense of the North Atlantic and served as a base for operations against German U-boats. Gander's aviation history is chronicled at the North Atlantic Aviation Museum. Several vintage aircraft are displayed here on the outdoor field, such as the Beech 18, the Lockheed Hudson Bomber, the Voodoo CF 101 and the Consolidated Canso. You can also climb aboard a real DC-3 and sit in the cockpit.
