In the south of Okayama Prefecture, the town of Setouchi has a little more than 38 000 inhabitants. It is a recent commune because it was created only 13 years ago, on 1 November 2004. It is the result of a merger between the former towns of Osafune, Ushimado and Oku town (all three in Oku district). Osafune is still a strong place for the production of katana. Its reputation dates back to the th century. The port of Ushimado, for its part, turned into a small marina, while for years it served as exchanges between Korea and the Tokugawa De.The town of Setouchi faces the inland sea on its eastern and southern parts. The climate is moderate, even Mediterranean. Its main industries today are fisheries, agriculture, pottery and tourism.
