Located south-east of Ambergris Caye, Turneffe Atoll is home to several small islands renowned for their white-sand beaches and diving - and fishing - spots that are the envy of the rest of the country. It's the largest reef in the region, and also the one closest to the mainland. Most of its surface is covered by mangroves. Sea trips here are unforgettable: over 500 species of fish and 60 species of coral have been recorded in this marine reserve. There are two upscale hotels on the Atoll, the Blackbird Caye and the Turneffe Island Resort, both of which are exceptional.
