Zwickau is the fourth largest metropolitan city in Saxony, with 91 000 inhabitants. As the birthplace of composer Robert Schumann (1810-1856), she is more known to be the mother of the factories of the German car Trabbi. Zwickau is the cradle of the German car industry; the Audi company, among others, was founded in 1909. A visit to Zwickau is therefore necessary for car buffs! The origins of the city date back to the Middle Ages. It was the first European city, after Wittenberg in Saxony-Anhalt, to introduce the Lutheran Reformation. A good part of its beautiful Baroque old town and th century, with very picturesque Saxon architecture, is well preserved. Do not miss the famous Priesterhäuser (rectory), a set of four double houses built in the th century in the Domhof 5-8. These are the oldest homes still preserved to date in Germany.
