It is here that one descends to enjoy the unique atmosphere of the thousand-year-old paths of Kumano Kodo. Nachikatsuura is home to one of the three great shrines of Kii-hanto: the great Kumano Nachi Taisha Shrine. The small port town is a crossroads for visitors wishing to reach the shrine via the beautiful wooded path of Daimon-Zaka. The town's bus station is very convenient, as it connects to the most important sites in the area. The town itself is not very interesting, but spending a late afternoon and evening there before going to your guesthouse is not a bad idea at all.
