The small town of Talawakelle, very close to Pathana, is home to the St. Clair Falls. The waterfall, which flows through the St. Clair plantations, is stunningly beautiful when viewed from the road, 500 metres away. Nicknamed the Niagara of Sri Lanka, these falls are among the largest in the country. They are located along the Kotmale Oya River and fall over three rocky outcrops before ending their course in a large pool. They are 80 metres high and 50 metres wide and are divided into two falls. The first is called "Maha Ella" (the big waterfall) and the second "Kuda Ella" (the small waterfall).
