The village of Sag Harbor is a historic site since its occupation was already the work of the Algonquin indigenous tribe. New York State's first fire station was set up here. Until the 1850s, the Sag Harbor community was mainly composed of whalers. Today, it is still a fishing village by the ocean that has several historic sites, such as the pretty Umbrella House, the oldest house in the city, Old Whaler's Church, the summer residence of President Chester A. Arthur (1881-1885) or the colonnaded building of the Sag Harbor Whaling & Historical Museum (closed in winter).
