The village of Towanda is the birthplace of one of the first rockabilly singers, Mary Joan Okum, better known as Bonnie Lou (1924-1915). While passing through the outskirts of Towanda, you won't want to miss the roadside bike and pedestrian path. This is actually a continuation of the original Route 66 portions you've already followed through Lexington, the previous town on your route from Chicago. Halfway through the 2.2 miles that make up this new section, you will find a parking lot and signs explaining the route, which has been renamed the Route 66 Parkway.
